At Cronulla Medical Practice, our on-site infusion clinic provides a comfortable, supervised environment for IV iron therapy — no hospital visit required.
Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies in Australia, particularly among women of reproductive age, pregnant women, vegetarians, and people with chronic conditions. Symptoms include persistent fatigue, breathlessness, dizziness, poor concentration, and pale skin. While oral iron supplements work for some patients, they can cause digestive side effects and take months to restore levels. An iron infusion delivers iron directly into the bloodstream, with most patients noticing improvement within one to two weeks.
Our experienced clinicians administer infusions in a dedicated clinic setting. The infusion itself typically takes 30 to 60 minutes, and you will be monitored throughout. We also offer saline hydration infusions for patients experiencing dehydration.
Your GP will assess whether an infusion is right for you based on blood test results. We can arrange pathology on-site and discuss your options in a single appointment.
Your GP will review recent blood tests to confirm iron deficiency. If an infusion is appropriate, we can often schedule it the same week. Wear a top with easy access to your arm. The infusion takes 30 to 60 minutes in our dedicated clinic room. You will be monitored throughout and for a short period after.
The infusion itself takes 30 to 60 minutes. You will be monitored for a short period afterwards. Plan for approximately 90 minutes total.
No external referral is needed. Your GP at Cronulla Medical Practice will assess your blood results and determine if an infusion is appropriate.
The fee for an iron infusion is $174.90, which already includes the Medicare rebate.
Most patients tolerate iron infusions very well. Mild side effects can include a temporary headache, slight nausea, or a metallic taste. Serious reactions are rare. Our clinicians monitor you throughout the procedure.
